Motherhood has been an all encompassing journey for me. Through love and loss, highs and lows. Losing my daughter required me to turn inward and trust the unknown, to fully surrender to some of the deepest hurts... as with the caterpillar, cocooning into isolation and complete nothingness. Trust in that process feels terrifying while holding onto the hope of reemerging as a better human, a better mother and doing more than surviving. Embracing the change, finding the beauty in the world and allowing the process to fully transform you into a more magical human…a butterfly.
“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.”
I see MOTHERHOOD in the BUTTERFLY:
in the transformative experience
of embracing change.
Change in our bodies.
Change in our priorities.
Change in our identities.
A complete rewiring of who we once were.
It is not easy.
It is not without fear of the unknown.
But, that’s where the magic of MOTHERHOOD is born.
That’s where the beauty of MOTHERHOOD emerges: from our willingness to surrender to the transformation.
The caterpillar, which will become the BUTTERFLY, is nothing if not courageous.
MOTHERHOOD is nothing if not courageous.
The BUTTERFLY emerges,
gracefully transformed
from the caterpillar’s willingness
to surrender to nothingness,
surrender to the unknown,
surrender to the pull of its heart,
nudging it forward.
MOTHERHOOD does not run from the change; it embraces the emerging experience.
“Yes, transform me,” we say.
“I am unsure of how this will feel, but I’m ready,” we proclaim.
The experience requires time and space,
as we turn inward,
growing pieces of our hearts within us.
But the complete metamorphosis at the end ?
It births:
beauty,
strength,
inspiration,
grace.
I see MOTHERHOOD IN THE BUTTERFLY.
