My Beloved Grandma by Melissa
Hi there, this is Melissa, Founder and CEO of Tiny Tags. I realize that Grandparent’s Day is not on everyone’s radar but here at Tiny Tags where we celebrate love on a daily basis, this special day is clearly marked on our calendars. It is a day that I remember and celebrate my grandma, aka Tootsie even though she is no longer with us. I am thankful that she was alive long enough to meet my three boys and see the beginning of Tiny Tags but I still miss her everyday.
I remember when I gave her her Tiny Tags ‘grandma bracelet’ with her four great grandchildren’s names engraved - she was speechless. A piece of jewelry to show off her great grandchildren, and better yet, one made by her granddaughter's company? This was pure grandmother pride and joy. I swear she would jingle her bracelet on purpose so someone would ask about it and she could tell them about my new business and her grandbabies. It was a small gesture that meant the world to her. Not everyone gets to be a great grandmother after all! When I would call her she would proudly tell me how many people she told about my business and then would follow up by asking if a certain person placed an order. I adored her and she adored me. While mother and daughter relationships can be complex, I think relationships with our grandmothers tend to be easier. This Sunday on Grandparent’s Day, I will make my grandmother’s signature linguine and clam sauce dish and we’ll share memories of her over dinner. I won’t be sad because I know she is looking down from above and is so incredibly happy to see my boys and I together. If I had her bracelet I would wear it but it is with her. Yes, she asked to be buried with it. It was her way to keep her grandbabies with her for all of eternity.
